About this partOverview

Your power-steering pump generates the hydraulic pressure that the steering gear or rack uses to assist steering input. Driven by the engine crankshaft via a belt and pulley, the pump moves fluid through the high-pressure circuit at up to 1,500 PSI continuously while the engine runs. Common failure symptoms include a high-pitched whine that gets louder with cold starts, a moaning or groaning sound when steering at low speeds, fluid weeping from the pump shaft seal, and progressive loss of steering assist that’s worst when the vehicle is cold.

Each pump is fully remanufactured to OE specification. We disassemble to the bare housing, inspect the rotor and pressure plate for scoring, machine where wear allows, replace 100% of internal seals and the shaft seal, and rebuild the pressure-relief valve. Every pump is bench-tested for flow rate (gallons per minute at rated RPM) and pressure-relief setpoint before it leaves the line.

Frequently asked questions4 questions
Is the pulley included?
No — the pulley is not included. You must either transfer it from your old pump using a proper puller/installer, or order a new pulley separately. Hammering the pulley on will damage the new pump shaft and void the warranty.
What fluid should I use?
Use only the manufacturer-specified power-steering fluid for your vehicle. Different applications require different fluid types — some specify a synthetic spec, others require ATF, and some require a manufacturer-proprietary blend. Using the wrong fluid will damage seals within months. Check your service manual or the cap on your reservoir.
The new pump still whines — what’s wrong?
99% of post-install whine is residual air in the system. With the engine off, cycle steering lock-to-lock slowly 6–10 times to purge. If whine persists after 100 miles of driving, check for: pinhole leak in suction line, contaminated reservoir, or restricted return path. Whine from a properly bled pump on a healthy system is rare.
How long do these last?
A properly installed reman pump, on fresh manufacturer-spec fluid with no system contamination, will last 80,000–150,000 miles. Premature failures are almost always caused by contaminated fluid, dry start, or a failing rack/gear box upstream that’s contaminating the supply.
Why buy remanufactured?Built to OE spec

Why buy remanufactured?

Remanufactured doesn’t mean used. Every unit starts as a returned core, gets disassembled to the bare housing, inspected against OE tolerances, and rebuilt with 100% new seals, bearings, and wear components. The result is a part that performs to factory spec at a fraction of factory cost — with a warranty to back it up.

Up to 40%

less than new

Same OE-spec fit and function as a new part, at a fraction of the price.

100%

tested before shipping

Every unit is bench- or hydraulic-tested for flow, leakage, torque, or pressure before it leaves the line.

Warranty

on every unit

Backed against defects in materials and workmanship. If something fails, we make it right.

Warranty & returns1-year coverage

Every Score Auto Parts component is covered by a 1-year warranty against defects in materials and workmanship from the date of purchase. Warranty is void if the part is installed on a vehicle not listed in the fitment table, or modified after purchase.

Returns accepted within 30 days for unopened, uninstalled parts. Core deposits are refunded upon receipt of your old part in rebuildable condition.
