About this part
On classic domestic vehicles (1960s–1970s muscle, sedans, and trucks), the power-steering control valve is a separately-mounted hydraulic spool that sits in the linkage between the pitman arm and center link. Steering wheel input physically moves the spool, which routes high-pressure fluid from the pump to one side of an external power cylinder, which then pushes or pulls the linkage to assist steering. This is a vintage hydraulic system with no electronic components — every part is mechanical. Common failure symptoms include power assist that works in one direction but not the other (worn spool or scored bore), continuous fluid leak from the valve body (failed seals), and a "kick" or pull when transitioning between left and right input.
Each control valve is fully remanufactured to original-equipment specification. The valve body is disassembled, the spool is inspected for scoring and lapped or replaced as needed, all hydraulic seals and O-rings are replaced with 100% new components, and the centering springs are tested for free length. Every valve is hydraulic-tested for centering, internal leakage, and assist response in both directions before it ships. These units fit the classic muscle-car and full-size sedan applications of 1965–1975 — verify your vehicle in the fitment list.
