About this partOverview

Your steering gear box converts the rotation of the steering wheel into the hydraulic force that turns your front wheels. On high-mileage trucks and SUVs, the internal seals leak, the ball-bearing rack scores against the pitman shaft, and steering becomes loose, notchy, or unresponsive on-center. Common failure symptoms include hard turning at parking-lot speeds, visible power-steering-fluid weeping from the input or sector shaft, a wandering feel on the highway, and a hollow "thunk" when transitioning between left and right input.

This unit is fully remanufactured to original-equipment specification. Each core is disassembled to the bare housing, inspected for cracks and pitting, and machined to factory tolerance where wear allows. We fit 100% new seals, O-rings, and lip rings, then hydraulic-test every gear box for flow rate, internal leakage, and lock-to-lock turn balance before it leaves the bench. Every unit ships ready to install — no pre-fill, no setup, no surprise rebuild kits.

Frequently asked questions4 questions
Do I need to replace the pitman arm at the same time?
Not unless yours shows visible play, wear, or rust. The pitman arm is not included with this gear box and transfers from your original unit. If the arm is seized to the sector shaft, a pickle-fork separator or pitman-arm puller is required — do not strike the new gear box.
What does "remanufactured" actually mean for this part?
Every core is fully disassembled (not just refurbished), inspected against OE tolerances, fitted with 100% new seals and O-rings, machined where wear permits, and hydraulic-tested under load for flow rate, leakage, and turn-to-turn balance. A reman gear box is functionally equivalent to OE at roughly 40% of the new-OE cost, with a 1-year warranty.
How does the core return work?
Your core deposit is fully refunded when we receive your old gear box. We include a pre-paid return label and packing instructions in the box. You have 30 days from delivery to send the core back. Cores must be the same part number and in rebuildable condition (no cracked housings, no missing pieces).
Why does the steering feel different after install?
A reman gear box restores OE-spec internal friction and bearing preload, which on a high-mileage vehicle will feel slightly tighter or firmer than the worn-out unit you removed. This is correct and will not loosen with break-in. If the steering feels notchy, vague, or has dead spots, contact us — these are signs of a system issue (air in lines, contaminated fluid, or a defective unit).
Why buy remanufactured?Built to OE spec

Why buy remanufactured?

Remanufactured doesn’t mean used. Every unit starts as a returned core, gets disassembled to the bare housing, inspected against OE tolerances, and rebuilt with 100% new seals, bearings, and wear components. The result is a part that performs to factory spec at a fraction of factory cost — with a warranty to back it up.

Up to 40%

less than new

Same OE-spec fit and function as a new part, at a fraction of the price.

100%

tested before shipping

Every unit is bench- or hydraulic-tested for flow, leakage, torque, or pressure before it leaves the line.

Warranty

on every unit

Backed against defects in materials and workmanship. If something fails, we make it right.

Warranty & returns1-year coverage

Every Score Auto Parts component is covered by a 1-year warranty against defects in materials and workmanship from the date of purchase. Warranty is void if the part is installed on a vehicle not listed in the fitment table, or modified after purchase.

Returns accepted within 30 days for unopened, uninstalled parts. Core deposits are refunded upon receipt of your old part in rebuildable condition.
