About this partOverview

Your rack and pinion converts the rotation of the steering wheel into linear motion at the inner tie rods, controlling left and right wheel angle through a pinion gear that drives a horizontally-moving rack. On front-wheel-drive and modern rear-drive vehicles, the assembly handles hydraulic boost through internal seals that wear, score the rack, and leak as the vehicle ages. Common failure symptoms include a power-steering whine that builds with steering input, fluid weeping from the boot or end-seal, a notchy or off-center on-center feel, and visible play at the inner tie-rod sockets.

Each unit is fully remanufactured to OE specification. The assembly is fully disassembled, the rack is inspected for scoring and trued where wear allows, all hydraulic seals and O-rings are replaced with 100% new components, and the pinion bearings are renewed. Every rack is then hydraulic-tested for flow rate, internal leakage, and lock-to-lock turn balance under load before it ships. The inner tie-rod sockets are inspected for play and replaced when out of spec.

Frequently asked questions4 questions
Are the inner tie-rod ends included?
Yes — the inner tie-rod sockets are part of the rack assembly and are inspected/replaced as part of the reman process. Outer tie-rod ends are NOT included and transfer from your existing setup. If your outers show play, replace them at the same time — alignment is required either way.
Do I need an alignment?
Yes, mandatory. Any rack replacement changes toe geometry, and running on misaligned toe will scrub the new tires off in weeks and stress the reman rack’s internal seals. Schedule the alignment within 50 miles of installation.
What does the core deposit cover?
Your core deposit is fully refunded when we receive your old rack back. Cores must be the same part number, complete (housing, pinion, rack, inner sockets — not stripped for parts), and in rebuildable condition (no cracked housings, no missing fittings). A pre-paid return label is included in your shipment.
My old rack is leaking — is it safe to drive to the shop?
Yes, briefly. Top off the reservoir before you drive and keep distances short. Sustained driving on a leaking rack overheats the pump and can scorch the pressure hose internally. Drive directly to the shop, then plan replacement within 1–2 weeks.
Why buy remanufactured?Built to OE spec

Why buy remanufactured?

Remanufactured doesn’t mean used. Every unit starts as a returned core, gets disassembled to the bare housing, inspected against OE tolerances, and rebuilt with 100% new seals, bearings, and wear components. The result is a part that performs to factory spec at a fraction of factory cost — with a warranty to back it up.

Up to 40%

less than new

Same OE-spec fit and function as a new part, at a fraction of the price.

100%

tested before shipping

Every unit is bench- or hydraulic-tested for flow, leakage, torque, or pressure before it leaves the line.

Warranty

on every unit

Backed against defects in materials and workmanship. If something fails, we make it right.

Warranty & returns6-month coverage

Every Score Auto Parts component is covered by a 6-month warranty against defects in materials and workmanship from the date of purchase. Warranty is void if the part is installed on a vehicle not listed in the fitment table, or modified after purchase.

Returns accepted within 30 days for unopened, uninstalled parts. Core deposits are refunded upon receipt of your old part in rebuildable condition.
